
Deden Hendan Durahman
Born in Majalaya in 1974, Deden Hendan Durahman earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), majoring in Graphic Arts. After graduating in 1997, he continued his studies in Germany at Braunschweig University of Art, where he completed both his Diplom Kunst and Meisterschüler programs with distinction (Ausgezeichnet). In 2025, he received his Doctorate cum laude from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at ITB. Upon returning to Indonesia in 2006, he worked as an artist, designer, photographer, and full-time lecturer at ITB, where he founded the Intermedia Studio in 2008.
Durahman’s works are part of public collections such as the Art Varna Gallery in Bulgaria, the Tama Art Museum in Tokyo, and the Cabinet des Estampes of the Art Museum in Geneva. He has participated in exhibitions— solo and group—at galleries, festivals, biennales, and triennials internationally. His recognitions include the Silver Award at the Polaroid Transfer Photography Competition in Hannover (2004) and the Juror Candidate Award at the Tama Tokyo Print Triennale (2005). He was a finalist for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize (2020) and UOB Painting of the Year (2024). His work is featured in several major publications, including “Half a Century of Indonesian Printmaking”, “Photography in Southeast Asia: A Survey” by Zhuang Wubin, “Identity Crisis: Reflections on Public & Private Life in Contemporary Javanese Photography”, and “A History of Photography in Indonesia” by Brian Arnold. He served as Director of the Bandung Photography Triennale 2019-2023.
